5 Beauty Myths: Here’s What Not to Believe

Through the media, social conversations, or even old wives’ tales passed down through the generations, it’s clear. Most people have a few beauty myths they believe. Doing so could cost you and your skin. Here are a few of the most common beauty myths people have about green, healthy skin care. Are you making these mistakes?

#1: You Believe Organic Products Are Too Expensive

From foundations to incredible exfoliating products, there sure are many ways to care for your skin. However, price has nothing to do with what’s in them, in many cases. You do not have to pay more for organic, healthy products for your skin. In fact, some of the most toxic and chemical-driven products are very expensive. Simple, clean ingredients are the best for your skin and typically less expensive, too.

#2: “Natural” Means Its Good for You

The government does not regulate the word “natural.” As a result, many companies use it when what’s inside is anything but from nature. If you see a product on a shelf that says it’s “all-natural” or “made with natural ingredients,” don’t assume this means it is 100 percent natural. And, many products with these labels are not organic. If a product is organic (and good for your skin), the manufacturer will invest in this type of properly and legal labeling. Always look at the ingredients in the products you buy. If you cannot say their names, chances are good they are chemicals.

#3: Organics Products Don’t Work as Well

When it comes time to buy a product, and you need a specific result, don’t assume the organic product will let you down. For example, if you have to choose between two products to soothe your inflamed skin, you may think a chemical-based product is best because it’s been around a long time. However, aloe or other natural products are going to be just as effective if not more so. It is important to choose a high-quality product (not every product offers the same ability to meet your needs).

#4: Chemicals Aren’t Bad – Your Parents Used Them for Years!

Many people believe that what was good enough for their parents is good enough for them. You could use chemical-based products, but why do so when research shows organic and natural-based products are better for you? Just because that ointment your grandmother used worked for them doesn’t mean it will work for you. More so, chemical-based products have side effects natural products don’t. Why risk it?

#5: Organic and Natural Products Can’t Hurt You

It’s important to recognize this big myth. If you are using a new product, you may have a reaction to it. The fact is, organic and natural products can have allergens in them. Some people who are impacted by the nuts, fruits, vegetables, or other ingredients within these products may develop harmful side effects. That’s why it is always important to follow label information and to avoid products you may have an allergy to.

The bottom line is simple. Look for products that work for you, are as natural and organic as possible, and that you believe in. Your beautiful skin will thank you down the road if you do.
