DMAE: Your New Favorite Skincare Ingredient

DMAE: Your New Favorite Skincare Ingredient

Say what now?

DMAE, or dimethylaminoethanol, is a powerful antioxidant made from fruit acid. When applied topically, it smooths, hydrates, and tightens the skin. Antioxidants protect the body against free radicals, which are responsible for signs of aging. DMAE does just that--it protects the cell structure and prevents the production of arachidonic acid, a chemical responsible for inflammation and pain. A stronger cell wall means tighter and brighter skin, fewer broken blood vessels, more even skin tone, and fewer fine lines.

A Different Kind of Face Lift

You get your butt on the yoga mat so that your butt doesn’t end up… going down. Did you know that the same holds true for the muscles in your face? Applying DMAE to your skin triggers the muscles in your face by stimulating the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Without enough acetylcholine, your muscles have a hard time engaging and therefore show signs of aging. Acetylcholine helps carry messages from your central nervous system to the muscles in your tush, I mean face, to stay firm.

And lucky for you, Sheer Miracle’s Lift It Firming Serum contains DMAE as well as green tea and Vitamin E--both excellent antioxidants themselves. One of the other great benefits of DMAE is that if you use other products with antioxidants like Vitamins A, E, C or alpha lipoic acid, using the Lift It Firming Serum as your base layer of product actually enhances the efficacy of the other products. Win-win!

Incorporating DMAE into Your Skincare Routine

Start your day with a clean face and a thin layer of the Lift It Firming Serum, then wait for it to absorb completely before applying makeup. The smoothness of the serum is the perfect texture to ensure long-lasting wear for your Mineral Foundation.

At night, I remove my makeup using the Organic Argan Oil, then I wipe my face clean with a moist, warm--not scalding!--Skin Perfecting Cloth. Four spritzes of Sea Mineral Hydrating Mist, and then I apply the Lift It Firming Serum. “But, Gia,” you say, “I have such dry skin!” Layer up, amiga! Gently rub in about five drops of Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, and you’ll be good to go.

If you wanna get real fancy, you might want to try face yoga while massaging in your products. Please do yourself (and all of us, really) the favor of posting some behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram so we can all laugh at the ridiculous faces you made while practicing… and remark at how luminous and youthful you look. Namaste!
